Sambal Ikan Bilis Recipe Version 2


  • 100 gm ikan bilis (anchovies)
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 bombay onion
  • 2 tbsp of chili paste (blend using cili kering)
  • 2 tbsp asam jawa juice
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp of water
  • 6 kaffir leaves (slice) (daun limau purut)
  • Add in ikan bilis cube stocks if you prefer more delicious taste (I omit this)

To pound

  • 5 shallots
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 stalk lemon grass (serai in malay) (slice)
  • 1/2 tsp belacan


  • Heat oil in wok, saute pounded ingredients, add chili paste, belacan stir till aromatic.
  • Add in ikan bilis and big onions, daun limau purut and mix well.
  • Add lime juice, water.
  • Served with nasi lemak or plain rice.
